When will my road be plowed and/or sanded?
The Brimfield Highway Department is responsible for 71 miles of roadway and the plowing and sanding of all town facilities and sidewalks. We normally take care of all main roads first and then we take care of all secondary roads. We will get to your road just as soon as possible. Our goal is to make all roads safe just as soon as possible.
Can I push snow or ice off my property into a town road?
ARTICLE XXVII: Snow and Ice on Roads
No person other than an employee in the service of the Commonwealth or the Town, or an employee in the service of an independent contractor acting for the Commonwealth or the Town, shall shovel, snow blow, pile, push, or plow snow or ice onto and/or across a town road or way so as to impede the flow of traffic on such road or way.
Any property owner found in violation of the provisions of this bylaw as determined by a police officer shall be liable to a penalty of $250.00 for each offense
Can I put leaves or debris into a town road?
ARTICLE XXV: Roadside Rubbish Enforcement
Section 1. Purpose: The purpose of this bylaw is to discourage and eliminate the dumping of household rubbish and all trash from the roadsides in the Town of Brimfield.
Section 2: Definitions: For the purpose of this bylaw, rubbish is defined as any discarded material/s including, but not limited to, household trash, appliances, automotive parts, commercial or industrial materials, fuels, chemicals, or brush and leaves.
Section 3: Enforcement: The Brimfield Police Department is authorized to investigate complaints under this bylaw and is authorized, with the consent of the Police Commission/Board of Selectmen, to prosecute when reasonable cause is shown.
Section 4: Penalty: The penalty for such dumping shall be not less than $50 and not more than $500 per occurrence, plus costs of removal and disposal which may be ordered and conducted by the Board of Selectmen or the Board of Health.
Is winter sand available for town residents?
Yes, there is a sand pile located at the Highway Department on Wales Road for town residents only. This sand is not available for contractors use.
When will the common be cleaned?
It is our goal to rake the Common twice a year (Spring and Fall) if funds allow. The Spring cleanup is done as soon as our schedule allows.
The Fall cleanup is performed after Mother Nature has helped us out by removing the toilet paper from Halloween from the trees. After all toilet paper is on the ground, we will rake and clean the Common.
What do I do about a clogged storm drain?
If a basin is clogged due to leaves and other debris on top of it, please clear it away. If it appears that the catch basin is clogged on the inside, contact the Highway Department at 413-245-4103 or firstname.lastname@example.org during normal business hours. The location will be put on a list and repaired as quickly as possible.
The Town is only responsible for maintaining Town owned basins. If the basin is owned by a private property owner, it is up to the owner to maintain the basin so there are no dangerous conditions as a result of a clogged basin.

If there is an eminent emergency and it is after normal working hours, please contact 911 and they will get in touch with a Highway Department employee.
When will my road be swept and the sides mowed?
The Highway Department conducts road sweeping in the Spring. All major roads are done first and then we move onto the secondary roads. The Highway Department conducts roadside mowing in the Spring and summer months.
