Annual Town Meeting and Elections During the COVID-19 Pandemic

LAST UPDATED: MAY 12, 2020 - 8:06AM

Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the Declaration of Emergency and the related Orders put forth by Governor Baker's Office, the Select Board of the Town of Brimfield has delayed scheduling the Annual Town Meeting and Annual Town Election.  There are certain nuances of the recent Governor's Orders regarding elections that are not technically applicable to several towns in the State, Brimfield being one of them.

We are in close contact with our Town Counsel, with our legislators, and with the Massachusetts Election Division regarding an eventual resolution to these legal matters.   It is the goal of both the State and the Town of Brimfield that we follow the legal parameters of our Bylaws while also adhering to the Orders of the Governor during these challenging times.

We will update the residents of Brimfield as to the progression of these attempts to clarify the legal picture for the Town.  We appreciate everyone’s understanding and we expect a resolution relatively soon. In the meantime, the Town Clerk and the Select Board are developing possible alternatives that would allow voters and the election workers the ability to participate in the fundamentals of Town Government while, at the same time, being able to do so under safe and healthy circumstances.

The Town of Brimfield would like to express its thanks to our residents for being diligent during the sheltering in place orders and for their patience while we work through the plan from the State’s Reopening Advisory Board.

Stay safe and be well.
