Brimfield Historical Commission

Meeting Notes:  9/2/21

 

  1.  Brimfield Community Partnership:  Discussed collaboration regarding enhancements on the common.  BCP will create a wish list for decorations (i.e. lighting the large tree on the common once again). By November we will have a better understanding of the sidewalk situation.  Specifically, which organization funds the sidewalk to the gazebo, the town via their grant or the BHC. Discussed how this will impact what additional fund we have to purchase decorations for the common.  A wish list will be developed and we will revisit in November.
  2.  Gazebo Project: 
  1. Three bid packets have been given to three vendors.  Mark and Bob worked very hard this past month on the bid specifications along with Selectman Pat Leaming and Rep. Todd Smola. There is a 30 day period in which bids can come in.
  2. It was decided that the gazebo will sit on piers, raised six inches off the ground as it was advised that the building will last longer.  It will have a ramp design and pressure treated wood bottom to top.
  1.  Book Project:
  1.  Mike reported that we will have the books next Thursday. Several upgrades include glossy cover, binding, and high resolution printing 
  2. Mark made a motion to charge $15 for each book.  Second motion by Mike and, Sue and John also voted in favor. 
  3. Mark reported the printer has been paid in full and there is approximately $500 in our BHC accounts
  4. Mike reported the additional fees for the copyright and ISBN number were additional costs paid by him.  We will revisit reimbursement.
  5. Books will be sold at Hitchcock, Library, and Apple Barn.  Suggested a table at the Harvest Festival on 9/25
  6. Mike will call about newspaper briefs about the book (Sturbridge Villager, etc.)
  1. New/Old Business: 
  1. The 300th anniversary of the church was held this past Sunday and Mike/Bob were present to answer questions on the history.  Mike reported that in November he will do a slide show of pictures of the church for parish members.
  2. Revisit town common tour regarding history
  3. Discussed supporting Mike in archiving glass plate negatives this Fall.
