Historical Commission Meeting

I. Records project: Mike reported that Sue, Mike, and Roseann continue to review items stored in the vault, including but not limited to- the railroad, military, prohibition, poor farm, etc. Records are identified, put in protective sleeves, and entered into a database. The work will proceed into the new year.
II. Holiday Book Sales: Sue report she picked up $60 in sales from the Apple Barn and dropped off 10 books for potential holiday sales. Apple Barn currently has 11 books. The Library and Hitchcock both have books for sale.
III. Brimfield Brick Company: Mike brought in an original brick that was acquired by Roseann. Further records search is needed on the company. Another site visit was discussed and planned for Spring.
IV. Town Beautification Project: Mark reported on the next steps for their Ad Hoc committee
V. Town Common Decorations: Bob reported on the purchase of lights and garland for the light poles. Mike made a motion to approve the expenditure of $300 to reimburse him for the purchase. Adrienne seconded the motion. All in favor, motion passed.
VI. Annual Report: Sue offered to compile articles for the town report. Possible topics were discussed including but not limited to the newsletter, grant, town flag, records project, gazebo/town common decor. Discussed needing submissions by mid-January.
VII. Town Plaque Program: Mike reported that he communicated with Joe Faucher, who agreed to make a template for a sign design. A one time set up design fee is $125. Two parties are currently interested in purchasing house plaque signs. We discussed what to charge and agreed on $90. Mike made a motion to approve the expenditure to have Joe create an initial prototype of a historic plaque house sign. Adrienne seconded the motion and all were in favor. Motion passed. Sue will take care of submitting the expense to have Joe paid.
VIII. Steerage Rock: A lengthy discussion was held regarding this town landmark. We discussed current deeds and rights. Mike made a motion to authorize Sue to request from the Selectmen, the approval to contact the Town Counsel regarding Steerage Rock. Adrienne seconded the motion. All in favor. Motion passed.
IX. Newsletter: Mike requested submissions for the newsletter
X. Town Email: Mike and Sue will be checking the town email.
